Synopsis

Summary from Goodreads

Sean looked out over the lake, squinting against the sunlight. He turned to me, his expression sobering as his eyes flicked over my face in a silent study.

“Come on Amy, I saved you once, I’ll save you again.”
I met his stare unflinchingly. “I don’t need saving.”
A wicked grin formed slowly. “Don’t you?”

After a rebellious summer night that almost claimed her life, Amy Henderson – the Onslow publican’s only daughter – is sent away to suffer a fate far worse than any other punishment:

Boarding School.
Three years on, a now nineteen-year-old Amy returns to Onslow for the summer. What once was a cauldron of activity with live bands, hot meals and cold beers, the Onslow Hotel now lies dark, deserted and depressing. All fond childhood memories of loitering on the hotel stairs and eavesdropping on customers’ colourful conversations are in the distant past.

How had her dad let it come to this?

With the new threat of putting the Onslow up for sale, Amy reluctantly turns to a local tradesman for help: Sean Murphy, the very same Onslow boy who saved her life all those years ago. With his help and that of some old friends, the task is clear: spend the summer building the hotel back up to its former glory or lose it for good.

In an endless summer, Amy soon realises that sometimes in order to save your future, you have to face your past, even if it’s in the form of a smug, gorgeous Onslow boy.

Review

The story

In the Boys of Summer,we read and fell in love with Tess and Toby's story. That was when Amy was fifteen. Now,four years later,a nineteen-year-old Amy is back in Onslow in order to take over the family business. That means,if there still was a business to run.But Amy doesn't give up.She wants to restore the Onslow hotel back to its previous glory. In order to accomplish that she will need Sean Murphy's help. But what starts as an innocent-an maybe a little flirting-collaboration will lead to well-buried feelings...

The characters

At the age of fifteen,Amy did a terrible mistake and would have almost drowned if it wasn't for Sean.Four years later, after attending boarding school as a punishment, she decides to spend her summer in her "refuge"which is none other than her hometown Onslow and her home, the Onslow hotel. Her parents agree to that plan thinking that it would be for her to work at the family business like she used to.But when she arrives at the hotel, the only thing she could think of is how is this building still standing? Her home and Onslow's historical landmark is official "dead".So she takes the initiative to make the Onslow hotel the most precious building in Onslow again.Throughout the book we clearly realize that Amy has grown up.She's smart, ambitious, determined and loyal to what she believes in.But most of these gifts disappear when she's at the same place as Sean Murphy. She saved Amy once in the lake. Can he save her again from losing her childhood home and her future in Onslow?

"All right,Captain Excitement, take me on this life-changing land expedition then."I climbed off the tabletop and brushed peeled paint flakes from my shorts and hands.
"Life-changing?I'm afraid I've oversold it to you.The last thing I want is for you to be disappointed."
I smiled sweetly as I sidestepped towards the car."I bet that's what you say to all the girls."
Sean paused. His brows creased in a mixture of horror and confusion, the corner of his mouth curving incredulously as he began to follow after me.
"What did you just say?"
I just giggled and sped up,my head darting backwards to see where he was.As soon as the words had tumbled out I knew it meant trouble;I had read it all over his face. When I ignored the question it just dug me into a deeper hole.
"Right! That's it!" he said, and ran after me.
I screamed.

Skilled tradesman,Sean Murphy left Onslow a few years ago, made a name for himself and now he's back. He wants to help Amy with the Onslow hotel because that was his and his friends' summer hideout.Cold beer, good music and pool tables. That's all these boys-the Onslow Boys-needed for their summer. So he feels obligated to help her.But fate has other plans because Sean is a pretty attractive guy and Amy challenges him all the time, thing that he finds so tempting!

The rest of the gang was back for the summer as well..Tess and Toby,Chris,Adam,Ellie,Ringer and Stan.I hope That One Summer-Book 3 in the Summer series will be about the rest of the guys..We have to read their stories as well! :)

Verdict

Fresh, funny, delightful and full of emotions An Endless Summer is the perfect summer read. C.J. Duggan did a great job with The Boys of Summer. Now she's back with a story that will keep you up on a summery night.
